Taking a canter or gypsy safari in Ranthambore Tiger Park is one of the best ways to explore the park’s wild landscapes. Covering a vast area of 1,334 square kilometers, the park is divided into 10 different zones, each offering unique wildlife sightings. Visitors can select either Zone 1 to 7 or 8 to 10.
There are 10 Safari zones in Ranthambore National Park.
If you select Safari for 1 to 7 Zone that means your safari will be conducted in any one
Zone
from all these, same as for Zone 8 to 10.
In the case of the current Ranthambore safari booking, any of the zones between 1 and 10 can

Types of Safari
"There are two types of safaris in Ranthambore Tiger Park that allow you to explore the park: Gypsy and Canter. You can choose either to explore the area and enjoy the wildlife."
GYPSY SAFARI
- "The 4-wheeler Gypsies at Ranthambore Tiger Park are open on all sides and take you deep inside the park to explore its rich flora and fauna. These safaris offer a closer view of the animals and can easily navigate the narrow jungle routes. Many visitors choose the Gypsy safari for a thrilling and adventurous experience."
- "A total of 88 Gypsies are allowed inside Ranthambore Tiger Park at a time across all zones. This means 88 Gypsies operate during the morning shift and 88 during the evening shift. Of these, 58 Gypsies can be booked in advance, while the remaining 20 are reserved for Tatkal bookings. Out of the 20 Tatkal Gypsies, 5 are allocated for the special category quota, and 5 are reserved for full-day or half-day safaris."
- Each Gypsy at Ranthambore Tiger Park can accommodate 6 passengers, with 2 additional seats reserved for the guide and driver (children below 5 years can travel without a seat). Gypsy safaris are usually booked on a sharing basis—for example, if you are 4 people, 4 seats will be reserved for you, and the remaining 2 seats will be allocated to other visitors. However, if you wish to book an entire Gypsy for just 4 people, you can do so by paying the full safari amount.
- It is recommended to make your Ranthambore Tiger Park safari booking in advance, as Gypsies get fully booked quickly. To avoid disappointment, ensure you reserve your safari before your intended visit dates.
CANTER SAFARI
- Canters at Ranthambore Tiger Park are 4-wheeler buses that take you deep inside the park to explore its rich flora and fauna. They offer a good view of animals even from a distance, as they are taller than Gypsies. Canters are ideal for large groups and are budget-friendly. They are permitted in all zones except Zones 7 and 8.
- A total of 52 Canters are allowed inside Ranthambore Tiger Park during each shift. This means 52 Canter safaris operate in the morning shift and 52 in the evening shift.
- Each Canter at Ranthambore Tiger Park can accommodate 20 passengers, with 2 additional seats for the guide and driver in the front. The remaining 20 passengers sit in the back. Canter safaris are usually booked on a sharing basis. If you are visiting in a large group, booking a Canter is the best option.
- Canter safaris at Ranthambore Tiger Park are booked on a first-come, first-served basis. You must pay the full amount for your seat in advance to confirm your safari booking.
How to Book Safari
Visitors to Ranthambore Tiger Park can easily make an online safari booking. To book your safari, you need to provide details of all participants, including their name, age, gender, and ID proof number. You also need to select the safari date, shift, and vehicle type—either Gypsy or Canter.
Tourists must provide identity card details to make a Ranthambore Tiger Park safari booking. Indian citizens can use any government-issued photo ID such as Voter ID, Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, or Driving License, while foreign nationals must provide their Passport. After submitting these details, you need to pay the full amount displayed on the screen to confirm your safari. Please note that once a safari is booked and confirmed, it is non-refundable and non-transferable.
Note: Zone from 1 to 5 is Closed Every Wednesday and zone from 6 to 10 remains closed every Tuesday.

Ranthambore Jungle Safari Rules
Visitors need to take the same original ID in their backpack when coming for a safari and then show it at the gates.
It is important to listen to your guide and driver for safety reasons. Obey all the rules that they tell you.
Blowing horn, shouting, or using any tape recorder, transistor, or radio is strictly prohibited.
Don’t try to get down from the vehicle during your ride, it is strictly prohibited.
Don’t try to carry pets during your ride.
You have to carry permits or passes and ID cards when coming for a safari. Without the original permit and ID, you are not permitted to enter the park.
